PDF Weekly Update - 30 August 2013

Greetings from the Pacific Disability Forum!

Inclusive education happens when children with and without disabilities participate and learn together in the same classes.

The journey to be an inclusive school may be long and challenging, and it benefits will strengthen a school community and benefit all children. "Inclusion" does not simply mean the placement of students with disabilities in general education classes.

PDF believes that this process must include crucial changes in the way a school community supports and addresses the individual needs of each child. As such, effective models of inclusive education not only benefit students with disabilities, but also create an environment in which every student, including those who do not have disabilities, has the opportunity to flourish.

Greetings from the Pacific Disability Forum!

Development for all is vital in our small Pacific Island countries.

Leaders must ensure that all its policies and development frameworks are inclusive of persons with disabilities. It is also important to include persons with disabilities at the initial decision making process on issues that involves them, right up to the implementation stages. This will ensure that their voices are heard and their needs taken into consideration in such frameworks.
